From Design Research to Design Practice: How to transform Analyses into Products and Services

There will be no distinguished design without carefully research people’s demands and their use of and dealing with design in everyday life and at work.

This workshop will explore how to transform the findings of theoretical and empirical analyses into the design of products and services.

The topic will be discussed by exemplarily using the brand new study “My Desk is my Castle” that has been carried out with the support of many design departments all over the world. HK PolyU, School of Design participated in this empirical study.

The study focuses on how people “decorate” their office desks because the desk is not only a place of work, but it also serves as a place to exhibit personal things. Thus the desk must be understood in the context of its cultural, gender-specific and field-relating surrounding.
